Begin each session with a few quiet moments to settle into your body and welcome yourself into the present.  Take three deep breaths, inhaling all the way, holding the inhalation, and then breathing out very slowly. 

 

Become curious about the full arc of each breath.  Then simply sit in stillness for a couple of minutes before commencing the writing practice. 

 

You will be amazed at how powerfully even a brief contemplative practice can focus your writing.  It helps you slice through the first few layers of surface thoughts so that you can get right to the core of what your heart wants to say.
