You Were Born With This Kind of Heart

Do you have the kind of heart that flies open in the presence of the sacred wherever you encounter it?

Maybe your soul says an equally enthusiastic yes to Hindu kirtan and Buddhist meditation, to the poetry of the Christian mystics and the Tao Te Ching, to the peace of the Jewish Sabbath and ecstatic Sufi prayers.

Somewhere along the way, did someone well-meaning tell you that if you were serious about awakening you had to pick one to the exclusion of all others?

The mystics of every tradition remind us that all loving paths lead us home to love, and that we were born to cultivate intimacy with the Divine within and beyond all the world's great wisdom ways.

Your longing was never the problem. Your longing is the invitation.

"The world's great wisdom traditions are like a giant garden of the spirit, every flower and weed, each species of tree and blooming grass a unique and glorious example of the Beloved's beauty. Like bees, we draw nectar from them all."

— Mirabai Starr, Wild Mercy

 What We'll Explore Together

In our time together we gather with the mystics and mystical teachings that celebrate holy longing and affirm the teachings of peace and justice alive at the heart of every wisdom tradition.

As we wander among the sacred archetypes and transformational practices available to us, we honor the wellsprings from which these life-giving teachings arise, and pay homage to the cultures and the lands that keep them alive.

This is not a survey of world religions. It is an affirmation of the impulse that already moves in you, and a practical apprenticeship in living it.

Our ninety minutes will hold:

A teaching on the interspiritual heart

Mirabai offers what she has learned across decades of practice and study: why your capacity to recognize the living presence of love in many traditions is not spiritual dabbling but an evolutionary movement in the human soul. We'll speak to the distinction between interspiritual and interfaith, and to the difference between skimming a tradition and deepening into it.

Writing as a spiritual practice

We'll receive a poem and write together to a prompt.

Time in circle

We'll gather to share what surfaced and explore how this wisdom meets your actual life: your kitchen, your grief, your work, your relationships, the errand you run for an elderly neighbor.

Your questions

There will be room for whatever questions are stirring before we close.

 Honoring the Wellsprings

Some say that drawing from many traditions is inherently shallow. We dare to believe that you can have a genuine and transformational encounter with the sacred across the spiritual landscape.

We glimpse the face of the Divine across the spectrum of the human spirit, and honor the wellsprings of wisdom from which these life-giving teachings arise.

We'll explore this together with tenderness.

What Wild Heart Travelers Are Saying

"As a mystic-in-training, it can be difficult to find a spiritual community I resonate with 100% since our practices can pull from many religious traditions at once. I've been searching for my community for quite some time... I appreciate her respect for religious traditions while moving beyond some of their limitations, and her holistic approach to everyday life as sacred."

— Ashley M.

"I had some insights: that it's okay, it's perfect if I am inspired by more than one spiritual tradition. That it's okay if sometimes I am messy or emotional. That my fire is sane, is sacred."

— Isabelle

"Mystics are not from just 'long ago' but are interwoven within the fabric of my life daily and are the core of my spiritual self."

— PattiJoy
