Sandhill Cranes

return Apr 12, 2024

 The Sandhill Cranes have arrived. The pull for them to ascend through the hourglass so strong. Never questioning their path. Oh, to be so sure about the way to go. To be so sure that the path I am walking is created by You. The cranes know that their time to step through the center of the hourglass will not last. As the spring equinox nears, they
must fly quickly to make their ascent from south to north. Yearning for their young to stay warm and within the loving embrace in the multitudes of the community of Cranes. I want to know and yet, I know, that trusting in the unknowing is the only way to You.

Spread your wings
Spread them wide
I want to watch the
silver and gray of your
dance as you stomp and
prance on the corn stalks.

Spread your wings
Show me the beauty
of the misty, blue black
of your eyes, the enormity
of the feet you stand upon.

Once again as you repeat
the dance each year,
the dance remains perfect
and there is no need to know.

Grief isn't an illness or mistake, it is a natural and sacred response to life’s inevitable losses. It is also a crucible for transformation.
